The desire to travel is higher than ever in Indonesia, but holidays can be a big expense and often get de-prioritised. So our client wanted to develop financial solutions that alleviate these barriers, and allow more people to travel more often within their means.
Through a mix of diaries and in depth interviews, we explored personal financial management amongst everyday Indonesians - what they do with their salary, what they spend on and why, how much is saved. We also consulted with personal finance experts and travel anthropologists to get a macro perspective.
To help product developers empathise with this complex topic - personal finances - our team of designers developed board games inspired by real life cases of our respondents’ monthly financial decisions.
This led to several tension areas identified as ripe for innovation, potentially helping people travel with much fewer financial burdens.
